NAA Awarded Top College Donor to OneBlood

National Aviation Academy’s (NAA) Tampa Bay campus has been recognized as a “Top College Performer 2018-2019” in the tri-county region of Pinellas, Pasco, and Hillsborough. NAA students and staff have given their time, and their blood, in support of the extremely valuable work that OneBlood does for our local community and disaster relief.
  • National Aviation Academy falls within OneBlood’s top ten colleges/technical schools (in the education category) in all of Florida.
  • In 2018-2019, NAA donated 545 pints of blood meaning 1,635 lives were potentially saved by NAA donors alone!
  • NAA has been hosting blood drives for over 15 years now – consistently helping OneBlood provide life-saving and sustaining blood for patients and hospitals day after day!

OneBlood was generous enough to co-sponsor NAA’s Student Appreciation Day on August 22, 2019. Lydia Wallace of OneBlood also presented Pam Van Sant, NAA President and COO, with an award honoring top-donor status.

Everything You’ve Ever (Maybe) Wanted to Know About Blood

o   For every one pint of whole blood donated, there is the potential to save three lives.
o   One in three people will need a blood transfusion at some point in his/her lifetime.
o   Every two seconds of every day, someone needs blood.
o   There is no replacement for blood; it cannot be manufactured.
o   A single car accident victim can require 100 pints of blood.
o   The average human heart pumps 2,000 gallons of blood each day.
o   Blood is made of four components: red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets, and plasma.
o   37% of the population is eligible to donate blood, yet only 5% actually do.
o   A way that you can help, if you cannot donate yourself, is by hosting a blood drive with your workplace, company, organization, school, gym, library, etc!

Giving Thanks

Thank you to all students and staff members who donate! It is an honor to be in the company of University of South Florida and University of Tampa as top donors. NAA has distinguished itself as the only technical school in the college category. Our students continue to prove that they are hard-working, thoughtful, and conscientious learners both in and outside of the classroom/hangar!

For more information on how to get involved visit OneBlood! You can also donate directly on campus. The next PM Shift blood drive will be held on September 19, 2019. Day shift student can donate on October 8, 2019.

NAA makes a huge difference for anyone considering a career as an aircraft mechanic. It was a memorable experience to this day. It’s a great decision for anyone willing to work hard.
