Young Aircraft Enthusiasts Connect with Sheriff Aviation Unit

On Thursday, June 6, 2019, as part of a Scouts exploring post, six youths, along with a parent and NAA representative, visited the Aviation Unit of the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Department. A tour of their operations was guided by their lead technician, supervisor of maintenance, and designated pilot.

The NAA crew climbed aboard their Cessna caravan and helicopter, and discussed the differences between flight and maintenance careers. The group was given a demonstration of the use of the BAMBI Bucket for fires, went through a pre-flight checklist for both aircraft, and used a borescope to examine the inside of a helicopter engine.

The technicians shared their experience in aviation, giving a law enforcement perspective to the young aviation enthusiasts. They also offered more ways to connect and opportunities to visit in the future.

NAA makes a huge difference for anyone considering a career as an aircraft mechanic. It was a memorable experience to this day. It’s a great decision for anyone willing to work hard.
