PlaneSense, NAA, and the Exciting Future of Aviation Maintenance Careers
Last month, several National Aviation Academy-New England students had the opportunity to visit PlaneSense Inc. in Portsmouth, NH. Things have changed a bit since mid-March… Though we can’t wait to get back to educating the next generation of aviation maintenance technicians, we are so grateful to everyone for staying home and keeping one another safe.
For now, we’ll keep motivated by remembering an awesome site visit we had last month. Our visit to PlaneSense took place on March 13, 2020. PlaneSense is a fractional private plane ownership founded in 1995. Located at the site of the former Pease Air Force Base in Portsmouth, their facilities are nothing short of stunning.
Eleven NAA students toured the 40,000 square foot maintenance hangar that was constructed in 2007. Knowledgeable staff members led the groups and answered every question, pointed out individual aircraft in the hangar, and explained duties the students may have to complete if they were to work there as A&Ps in the future.
The maintenance facility was immaculate and filled with the latest technology! Students were able to inspect many of the planes, including their interiors. They were impressed that the tour also included 44,000 square feet of the behind-the-scenes offices. PlaneSense representatives detailed the business aspect of the company, as well as an operational overview that covered scheduling and dispatch, flight operations, maintenance, training, and employment policies.
PlaneSense invited NAA students to apply once they are closer to graduating, and extended the offer to tour again at any time! We can’t wait to take them up on that as we transition into better days ahead. Thank you, PlaneSense!
