Part of keeping NAA’s aviation maintenance curriculum on the cutting edge means taking a practical, engaging approach to the use of technology and training tools. We’re always looking for new and innovative ways to give our students direct access to situations that they will encounter in the field. For that reason, Ice and Rain Board technology has recently been introduced at NAA to simulate ice and freezing rain, as well as the operation of windshield wipers and alcohol spray – right from inside the classroom! These boards allow instructors to introduce faults for to students to troubleshoot in a controlled environment.

Students learn about prop de-icing in NAA’s Aviation Lab

These specific training boards allow students to practice how to break up formations of ice on a leading edge, the use of a master panel, pitot de-icer and more. These boards have added value to our students by offering situational troubleshooting opportunities that will enhance our hands-on learning environment.
