Blue Origin at National Aviation Academy

Blue Origin, the space-focused brainchild of Amazon’s Jeff Bezos, visited NAA’s Tampa Bay campus on Tuesday, March 6, 2018. Students and staff had the opportunity to meet with their outreach coordinator, Ryan Crompton, and learn about all things Blue.

The company is currently developing a variety of technologies, with a focus on rocket-powered vertical takeoff and vertical landing (VTVL) vehicles for access to suborbital and orbital space. Their name refers to the blue planet, Earth, as the point of origin.

Blue Origin’s vision, to enable millions of people to live and work in space, will require the work of dedicated team members with a passion for aerospace and safety. Headquartered in Kent, Washington, Blue Origin currently employs about a thousand people and the number is growing. Career opportunities will soon be available in Florida as new contracts, concepts and launches begin. Both aviation maintenance and avionics personnel are needed, as both play integral roles in the design of Blue Origin’s rockets.

Crompton said it best, “Having an A&P is going to be huge. It gives us confidence that a minimum set of requirements have been met.” We couldn’t agree more!
