NAA’s David Mead Honored with Leadership Award

Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri hosted a Community Service Awards Ceremony to recognize several neighborhood watch members and outstanding citizens who have gone above and beyond their calls of duty. He presented Leadership Awards to people who have taken the initiative and led others to success, Crime Prevention Awards to individuals who performed a specific action or reported a situation that substantially assisted deputies in solving a crime, and Good Samaritan Awards to individuals who contributed to saving a life.

NAA’s David Mead, Senior Executive Vice President Operations and Education, was honored with a Leadership Award. After graduating from NAA in 1981, he worked on the space shuttle program, assisting with eight launches before pursuing a career with a major airline. In 2013, Mead began instructing and eventually moved up to his current role as senior executive vice president of operations and education. He made it a priority to develop a good working relationship with the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office and has taken a proactive approach to bringing together Community Policing deputies and NAA students/staff. Because of this, students feel comfortable speaking freely and informally with deputies about issues on and off campus. This partnership has been extremely valuable for NAA and the Sheriff’s Office alike. This visible law enforcement presence on campus has proven to reduce disciplinary issues and has provided a greater sense of security on campus.

NAA-Tampa Bay Students Visit Embraer

Four NAA-Tampa Bay students journeyed to Embraer Manufacturing Facility in Melbourne where they make the Legacy and Phenom over Summer Break. These students, who are approaching graduation, were committed to seeing Embraer’s facility in person. A tour of the facilities and various hangars was provided, offering a glimpse of what awaits them in their future careers as aviation maintenance technicians!

Additionally, the students met Embraer’s own Kevin Olds and Michael Shields (a 1990 NAA alumni!), who have expressed hopes that these students will apply for positions at Embraer. We are extremely proud of these enthusiastic and dedicated future A&Ps.
