NAA Field Visit to Airborne/PEMCO

On June, 19, 2019, NAA facilitated a field visit to the Airborne/PEMCO hangar in Tampa, FL. Twelve young people and four parents accompanied NAA staff on a tour of operations. Airborne prides themselves on offering “maintenance when performance, delivery, and quality matter.”* Bringing over 35 years of airline maintenance experience to the MRO marketplace, they have grown into a leading Maintenance Repair and Overhaul (MRO) service provider to cargo and passenger airlines.

Keven Fadley, Continuous Improvement Supervisor, and Frank Phillips, Recruiter, led the tour, immersing visitors in some of the large projects they are working on, as well as their overall scope of work. A few of the featured stops included the welding station, avionics shop, and tool crib.

Individuals were also given the opportunity to climb into the cabin, cockpit, and cargo pit of an Airbus A320! It was impressive to see the size and scale of the work being done at Airborne. They have even serviced a certain gold-accented private plane at the Tampa location! Any guess whose?

As the tour progressed, Fadley and Phillips emphasized the stellar opportunities in aviation maintenance and MRO with their young guests. Fadley, an NAA alumni, has grown with Airborne since graduating from NAA in 2012. He described his journey from NAA to his current position, highlighting the many paths that one can take as a certified airframe and powerplant (A&P) technician.

The tour group, which included NAA interns, Scout explorers, and students from Robinson High School’s aviation program, left assured that the sky is truly the limit!

NAA makes a huge difference for anyone considering a career as an aircraft mechanic. It was a memorable experience to this day. It’s a great decision for anyone willing to work hard.
