Sun ‘n Fun 2018

Sun N Fun 2

Each year SUN ’n FUN preserves and enhances the future of flight through world-class events, inspiring and educating people of all ages! 2018’s International Fly-In & Expo was no exception. As in year’s past, NAA was an exhibitor for the full duration of the event. We met a vast array of aviation enthusiasts and community partners and, of course, we got to see some incredible aircraft.

SUN ‘n FUN makes more than $430,000 of scholarship funds available annually to students in Polk County entering an Aerospace Industry career to cover the cost of flight lessons and/or college tuition for 4 years. An estimated $2.1m is invested by SUN ‘n FUN to augment public education programs in Polk County annually. This is a cause we support with immense enthusiasm!

In fact, NAA has an articulation agreement with Polk State College. 30 of the required 60 credits that comprise Polk State’s A.S. in Aviation Maintenance Administration are satisfied by successful completion of NAA’s Aviation Maintenance Technician or Aviation Maintenance Professional programs.

We feel incredibly lucky that one of the premier aviation events in the country is right in our own backyard in Lakeland, FL. We’ll see you all there in 2019!

NAA’s Charles E. Taylor Scholarship

National Aviation Academy’s Charles E. Taylor Scholarship, named for the first aviation mechanic, has been established to recognize and encourage students who wish to pursue careers in aviation maintenance, as well as promote the future of aviation and, more specifically, highly-trained airframe and powerplant (A&P) mechanics. The scholarship is intended to nurture young talent and invest in the success of local, public high school students. Seniors who attend a public high school in Pinellas, Pasco, Hillsborough, Hernando and Manatee County may apply. Up to fifteen $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to be used towards tuition at National Aviation Academy (NAA).

Students from the local area will have the opportunity to receive a $1,000 scholarship to be applied directly to tuition at NAA’s Tampa Bay campus, the ability to harness hands-on talent by beginning training as an A&P mechanic and access to high-earning, rewarding careers in the global aviation industry, and beyond, upon graduation. A&P certifications are federally-issued and never expire. For students who are seeking in-demand skills and career longevity, these certificates offer a point of entry and certify maintenance technicians for life.

To qualify, an individual must be a current high school senior, must graduate from a Pinellas, Pasco, Hillsborough, Hernando or Manatee County high school in the year that the application is submitted, have an overall 2.5 grade point average (GPA) and complete the application by the deadline, May 4, 2018 at 11:59 PM.

NAA Students Visit Embraer

Embraer arose from a dream to transform Brazil into a country with the latest technology. From those dreams, they have become one of the largest commercial aircraft companies in the world. By stretching the limits of what is possible, and embracing new opportunities, they have accomplished what was previously unimaginable in the commercial, executive, defense and security sectors of aviation.

NAA students at Embraer’s Melbourne location

What is obvious about Embraer is the genuine passion for what they do. Their mission has resonated in the hearts of Brazilians, collaborators and partners. Ten NAA students were recently selected to visit their Melbourne, Florida facilities. They had the first-hand opportunity to see how design, imaginative engineering and technology are used to create new perspectives and solutions at Embraer.

For more information about career opportunities with Embraer contact NAA’s Career Services department.
